Sonic the Hedgehog Leak Reveals Creepy New Logo
What does it tell us about new character design?
In an accidental leak, Netflix revealed it is about to add everyone’s favorite hedgehog to its content list. According to a sent and quickly deleted tweet, Sonic is about to have a scintillating new animated 3D show on the screen. The tweet featured a hype-inducing list of iconic Sonic the Hedgehog features and a slightly creepy Netflix-themed Sonic logo
We’re not suggesting that this exact iteration of Sonic will be on the show or that it will be the official logo – it’s red, after all. And the eyeball-less devil-like incarnation might not do very well in a children’s show. But there are some stories about the character in this image, which we will discuss in a moment.
There have been a few different versions of Sonic over the years. Classic Sonic boasted a slightly larger midriff than later, and was somewhat rounder and shorter in both head and body – not to mention short legs. More recently, in the Sonic Boom series (2014-2017), Sonic looked quite different – with super long legs and more angular features.
But it looks like Netflix is using the modern 3D incarnation of the spiky man for the show Sonic’s body is slimmer than the classic Sonic, but the silhouette isn’t quite as angular and elongated as the Sonic Boom design.
Collaboration with Sega
While no other details have been announced yet, the tweet informs us that the series will be made in collaboration with Sega and TV production companies Wild Brain (the brains behind Teletubbies) and Man of Action entertainment (Ben 10 and Big Hero 6) .
Given Sonic’s history of elaborate character redesigns, we hope these big production companies are just what it takes to get the job done right for the first time. We’re sure all eyes will be on the little guy’s look, hoping for a less spiky start.
